“Every child is an artist. The problem is staying an artist when you grow up.”
As a Specialist Arts College, awarded Gold three consecutive times by the Arts Council, we are very proud of our art department. We allow pupils to express their own feelings, beliefs and creativity through the experiencing and creation of their own and others' art work.
The school showcases our students work through Art Shows and has strong links with visiting artists who run workshops for both GCSE and A-Level students.
We also offer a lively extra-curricular programme which is well attended by all ages and abilities.
We aim to encourage all our students to fulfil their creative potential here at BWH. Students are given the opportunity to work in a range of scale, materials and techniques in investigative and experimental ways. We aim to ensure that art is both a challenging and enjoyable experience. At KS3 there is a focus on developing good drawing and painting skills as well as learning three–dimensional skills in a variety of materials. These skills are assessed at regular intervals and built on each year. Sketchbook work is introduced and continues to be built on throughout the two years.
