Extra-curricular

Extra-curricular sits at the heart of Food and Nutrition, as there are lots of activities for pupils from across the school to be involved with throughout the academic year.  The focus of these activities is to promote a love of food, and inspire, whilst acquiring theoretical and practical skills to gain success at GCSE level.  Our biggest extra-curricular event is the BWH Young Chef Competition, open to Y7 - Y10 pupils.  The event brings together the most enthusiastic and budding young chefs to compete against each other to secure a place in the Rotary Young Chef Competition.  The competition is very popular amongst students, and we are always blown away by the efforts of our pupils. We also run masterclass cooking sessions throughout the year, enabling pupils to participate in high level cooking and food styling techniques.
Being in the GCSE Food and Nutrition groups also gives pupils the opportunity to explore careers within the food industry as we strive to deliver two trips throughout Y9 and Y10.  External speakers are also invited in at every opportunity to share their expertise, our latest speaker being a female fishmonger, sharing techniques about how to prepare and cook fish, alongside important information on sustainability and diversity.  We really strive to provide these opportunities as part of our pupil's journey through school so that they feel inspired and have all the necessary knowledge to live a healthy life through food.
